Who we are

Lawmanity Ltd is a consultancy that provides legal policy, research and training services.  We believe that the law should be designed to work for all people, equally – and we support research, training and movements for change that explore and challenge barriers to making our world a fairer and more just place.

what personal information we collect

We collect and use personal data about our clients, and on behalf of our clients, when we are providing these consultancy services – for example, conducting research or delivering training. 

We may also collect and use your personal data in order to administer our website, our contact mailing lists and to publicise and run our own events, campaigns and training.

We currently collect and process the following information:

  • Personal identifiers, contacts and characteristics (for example, name and contact details)
  • Special category data (for example, concerning racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious or philosophical beliefs, health, sex life or sexual orientation and information about criminal offences and convictions), if required for a specific consultancy service
  • Website and social media user analytical data

how we get the personal information and why we have it

Most of the personal information we process is provided to us directly by you for one of the following reasons:

  • To access information from our website or through social media
  • By signing up to our mailing list
  • By making an enquiry about our services

We also receive personal information indirectly, from the following sources in the following scenarios:

  • From third parties who engage us to provide consultancy services (for example, to conduct research or deliver training)
  • From third parties who provide services to us (for example, banks and insurers)
  • From information that is publicly available 

We use the information that you have given us in order to provide consultancy services, respond to enquiries, comply with legislation that regulates our business, and run and effectively market our business.  We use the information given to us by third parties for specific consultancy services, only to provide those services – and the receipt, use and processing of that information is often governed by additional, specific agreements. 

We may share this information with third parties who assist us to provide our services but who do not use this data for their own purposes (for example, banks or software providers like Zoom, MailChimp, SurveyMonkey or Eventbrite).

Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the lawful bases we rely on for processing this information are:

(a) Your consent. You are able to remove your consent at any time. You can do this by contacting jen@lawmanity.com.
(b) We have a contractual obligation.
(c) We have a legal obligation.
(d) We have a legitimate interest.

how we store your personal information

Your information is securely stored on our IT systems which are hosted on a secure Microsoft 365 cloud server.  We also use third party software (Zoom, MailChimp, SurveyMonkey or Eventbrite) to help us manage the information we use to provide our services.

We have contracts with these providers to ensure that the data is secure and that it will not be used by them for their own purposes.

We have procedures to deal with any suspected data security breach and will notify you and the ICO of a suspected breach where data protection legislation requires us to do so.

We keep personal data for as long as it is necessary for our requirements, including the contractual and regulatory requirements placed upon our business. After this time we will delete the data securely or anonymise it.

Under data protection law, you have rights including:

Your right of access – You have the right to ask us for copies of your personal information. 

Your right to rectification – You have the right to ask us to rectify personal information you think is inaccurate. You also have the right to ask us to complete information you think is incomplete. 

Your right to erasure – You have the right to ask us to erase your personal information in certain circumstances. 

Your right to restriction of processing – You have the right to ask us to restrict the processing of your personal information in certain circumstances. 

Your right to object to processing – You have the the right to object to the processing of your personal information in certain circumstances.

Your right to data portability – You have the right to ask that we transfer the personal information you gave us to another organisation, or to you, in certain circumstances.

You are not required to pay any charge for exercising your rights. If you make a request, we have one month to respond to you.
